Self-Guided Garden Tour
Timandra by the Sea was the 2014 Landscaping Victoria ‘The Sustainable Landscape’ Award winner. Covering 1 acre, this large regional garden is now open to the public on a daily basis through Tourism Victoria. Situated 35kms west of Port Fairy, Timandra epitomises the ideals of sustainable development in a garden. Biodiversity has been considered in all of its forms, while construction has been kept to the barest minimum, so that Timandra can rightly be regarded as a ‘natural garden’. Wildlife is abundant in the form of many different bird species, resident koalas and frogs galore.
The fee for garden entry is currently $10 per adult with card holders $8 per adult. Children under 16 are free. Children are to be under the control of an adult at all times with no running or squealing that will frighten the animals and birds within the garden. We treasure these visitors [birds and animals] and do everything that we can to ensure that they continue to visit.
Please feel free to bring a picnic hamper to the garden. We have a table and chairs for patrons’ use.
Because of the Ecotourism certification, we are currently appraising entry prices for the garden to ensure that the price reflects the quality of the attraction and the experience.
Coffee and Cake with Garden Quiz [optional]
Suitable for adults only and for groups of 10 or more. This package includes a self-guided tour of the garden followed by seated coffee and cake [or Devonshire Tea upon request]. Each table will vie against other tables to become the Timandra Quiz Masters. Plant samples are used within the quiz to test the knowledge of keen gardeners.
Priced at $25 per head, this is good value for money. Two weeks notice of booking is required, with a 25% deposit to confirm the booking. One week’s notice of cancellation is required to redeem the deposit otherwise this will be forfeited.
Alison is a multi award winning landscape designer, specialising in sustainable landscapes. These are the landscapes of the future and in years much more prominence will be given to these garden styles. Alison is an abstract artist, and so there are many quirky qualities about the garden – this gives the garden character and shows the personality of its designer.
Alison’s guided tours are Ecotourism certified. Through Timandra by the Sea, Alison will show-case the sustainable aspects of the garden and discuss plant queries that visitors may have. These tours take at least 1 hour with Q&A segment after the tour for those interested in plants or other points of interest. This guided tour can be attached to the above tour of Coffee and Cake with Garden Quiz.
The Guided Tour of at least 1 hour costs $25 per head. With the above package it is $35 [a saving of $15 per head] with a booking of 20 or more. The total time to be allowed should be 2 to 2.5 hours.
Timandra is unsuitable for wheelchairs and prams – there is a steep slope in the middle of the garden leading from the top to the bottom garden. Top and bottom are both flat and every effort will be made to accommodate those less able to visit at least the flat areas.
